The Solar System
The Sun, planets, dwarf planets, asteroids, meteoroids, comets and moons are all part of the Solar System.
The Sun is a yellow dwarf star and is made of 75% hydrogen & 25% helium. Almost everything in the Solar System orbits the Sun due to its gravity. The Sun is the largest, brightest and hottest object in the Solar System. Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun and the smallest planet in the Solar System until it is slightly smaller than Pluto in size. Venus is the third smallest, hottest and brightest planet in the Solar System. It is also called Earth's twin sis as its size is almost same as the Earth. Earth is actually tilted because Theia* crashed into Earth. Theia's crashing is important it was Theia's debris that clumped together to form the Moon. The Moon is Earth's only natural satellite and is covered in craters. Mars' gravity and size is half the Earth. Mars is also known as "The Red Planet" as its iron oxide makes the planet red. Ceres is the smallest dwarf planet, the largest object in the Asteroid Belt and the only dwarf planet in the inner Solar System. The Asteroid Belt is a place in the Solar System with a lot of asteroids. Jupiter is the biggest and heaviest planet in the Solar System but the Sun is much, much bigger than Jupiter. Saturn is the planet with most rings in the Solar System but J1407b has rings 200 times bigger than Saturn's but Saturn is the lightest planet in the Solar System. Uranus lies 98 degrees on its tilt. Uranus is the coldest planet in the Solar System. Its temperature can reach -224 degrees Celcius on its surface. Uranus' surface isn't solid - its surface is liquid. Neptune is the windiest planet in the Solar System and is dark blue in color. Pluto is the biggest dwarf planet but the second heaviest dwarf planet among all the dwarf planets. Haumea is unique because it is oval in shape because its fast rotation. It is thought that when Haumea was forming, something going violently fast knocked Haumea so it spun so fast that a day on Haumea is just four hours and made it oval in shape. Makemake is reddish-brown in color and has no atmosphere. Eris is the furthest dwarf planet from the Sun and the heaviest dwarf planet but the second largest after Pluto. A comet is made of ice, gas and dust. The Halley's comet is the most famous comet discovered by Edmond Halley. Meteoroids have three stages: Meteoroids, meteors and meteorite.
