The Dwarf Planets

There are five dwarf planets in the Solar System. Their names are: Ceres, Pluto, Haumea, Makemake and Eris. Ceres is the smallest dwarf planet but the largest object in the Asteroid Belt as it is the only dwarf planet in the inner Solar System. Pluto is the biggest dwarf planet among all dwarf planets until it is a little bigger than Mercury. Pluto used to be the ninth planet but its orbit is unusual to be called a planet. So the IAU demoted Pluto from planet status and belonged to a new family of planets: dwarf planets.

Haumea is oval in shape as it rotates fast. One day on Haumea is equal to just four hours also because it rotates fast. Haumea takes two hundred and eighty five years to complete one revolution around the Sun as it is the third dwarf planet from the Sun. Makemake has no atmosphere and it was discovered in the year of 2005. Makemake is reddish brown in colour. Eris is the furthest dwarf planet from the Sun and has the strangest orbit among all dwarf planets. Eris is the heaviest dwarf planet but the second biggest after Pluto. Ceres is in the Asteroid Belt, Pluto, Haumea and Makemake are in the Kuiper Belt and Eris is in the Scattered Disc.
